Who We Are

The School of Applied Financial Management

SAFiM is an application skills-driven learning and development institution that was established in 2018, offering a wide range of small, intensive short courses, which are driven by specific industry needs. A comprehensive study was carried out between September 2017 and February 2018 on close to 50 finance leaders within Zimbabwe. The objectives were to understand current financial management practices within Zimbabwe whilst evaluating the practical challenges which hindered their finance functions from achieving and maintaining peak performance.

Social Responsibility

SAFiM has entered into a exclusive partnership with Island Hospice and Healthcare (IHH) in the Conference Room at Island Hospice Centre a private voluntary organization, plays a crucial role of providing Palliative Care to primarily Cancer, HIV/AIDS and Other Life Threatening Illnesses as well as bereavement counseling. SAFiM will host its 2018 training courses at the spacious IHH Main Conference Room, in exchange for regular financial contributions towards their mission. In pursuing their mission, every contribution counts!

The SAFiM Story

  • Background of the GAP
"For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack." ~ Rudyard Kipling

It is a fact that almost all the senior positions within the finance function across all economic sectors within the country are filled with members of various professional accounting and financial management bodies. These professional memberships carry strict requirements for continuous professional development. However, a closer look within the finance functions themselves, one would realize that not every team member, who may be employed within them, may be a member of a professional accounting body, especially within the support structures.

  • Background of the GAP
the task of a leader is to get their people from where they are, to where they have never been

However, a closer look within the finance functions themselves, one would realize that not every team member, who may be employed within them, may be a member of a professional accounting body, especially within the support structures. We envisaged that a GAP would emerge - on the one hand, from unmet expectations on the part of the leadership within finance, - whilst on the other hand, despite the fact that support teams may be of the view that they are being over extended and have reached their maximum capacity. This GAP (its existence) if left unmanaged, may contribute significantly to the finance department not being able to meet its internal objectives in addition to its commitment to being an effective partner to the rest of the organization.

  • What we do
    .....pursuing Peak Performance

SAFiM is geared towards capacitating finance department teams, which may be failing to consistently attain peak performance, primarily as a result of personnel who may be in need of skills development (technical or soft); whether establishing or refining them. Our sessions by understanding each participants key focus areas, both focus on understanding the current knowledge and application levels before two key result areas for development; Our technical team (Research and Course Development as well as Course Facilitation) comprises of members of various professional accounting and taxation bodies that are internationally recognized.
